Who is Charlesbridge?

We’re an independent publishing house located in Watertown, MA. We publish children’s books for babies up to teens. We also have a select catalog of adult titles. Go to to check out our books!

When and where?

The internship is seventeen hours/week from June–August, 2024. The position is in-person (required), at our Watertown, MA office. The rate is $16.50/hour.

We, like many other publishers, recognize the need to publish more books by authors and illustrators from underrepresented groups. We also believe it is essential to hire employees who reflect the diverse fabric of society. What is the work like?

We have a variety of design, print production and administrative tasks we always need help with, all of which offer great learning opportunities.

Examples of tasks: Assisting with tracking & creation of marketing materials, designing paperback covers (InDesign), making ebooks (Acrobat), brainstorming fonts & potential illustrators, and assisting with art corrections (Photoshop). Attending meetings, updating schedules, and helping to review and traffic proofs.

Qualifications preferred?

Experience in graphic design, especially using InDesign and Photoshop, is preferred. Portfolios that demonstrate skill in typography are preferred as well. Creativity, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset are very important.
