Kathryn Shoemaker always loved books and wanted to write and illustrate them for as long as she could remember. She studied art at the Otis Art Institute and Occidental College, both in Los Angeles, after graduating Magna cum Laude from Immaculate Heart College in Los Angeles.

Believing that writers, illustrators, and artists must be a part of the world that they express, Kathryn is committed to community involvement. She sits on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Mental Health Association and the Board of the Mount Pleasant Community Charitable Association—a collection of fifty-two major charities.

Kathryn has illustrated many children's books, including Los niños alfabeticos, Oh Brother, Oh Sister (Millikan), and Jenny's Neighbors (Annick Press). She currently lives in Canada with her family.
